Bears trying to remind Kevin White he was once good at football

After an eventful six-day stretch at Olivet Nazarene, the Bears will catch their breath with a day off from training camp Tuesday. They will return to practice Wednesday morning, eager to build momentum as they march toward their preseason opener against the Broncos on Aug. 10.

Here's what we learned Monday.

Receivers coach Zach Azzanni is pushing to get Kevin White in the right frame of mind.

White's performance through the first four practices has been ordinary. Nothing spectacular; nothing alarming either. His speed and explosion remain evident and there don't appear to be any lingering effects from the season-ending left tibia fracture he suffered last October.

Now, Azzanni believes, White simply needs to take a deep breath and free his mind from his own impatience as well as the outside pressure to become a big-time playmaker.

"We've got to block out the noise with him," Azzanni said. "I can't let him read papers and (listen) to the media. I just can't. Because there is going to be some negative in there that gets in his head. And he can't let that happen. He has to be positive. And we've got to go in our bunker all the time and tell him how great he is. Because he is."

That's part of the reason Azzanni pulled White aside Monday morning and ran the receiver's highlight footage from his 2014 season at West Virginia, a campaign that produced 109 catches, 1,447 yards and 10 touchdowns.
